 Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. It falls on December 26, which is also St. Stephen’s Day. The public observance of Boxing Day takes place on the following Monday if December 26 falls on a Saturday or Sunday. The traditional celebration of Boxing Day included giving money and other gifts to charitable institutions, needy individuals, and people in service jobs. The holiday may date from the Middle Ages (A.D. 400’s-1500’s), but the exact origin is unknown. It may have begun with the lords and ladies of England, who presented Christmas gifts in boxes to their servants on December 26. Or it may have begun with priests, who opened the church’s alms (charity) boxes on the day after Christmas and distributed the contents to the poor Nowadays, we often see, in certain families, gifts (boxes) given to those who provide services throughout the year.

一些歐洲地區國家也稱之為「聖士提反日」(St. Stephen’s Day)，而香港人則是叫做「拆禮物日」，各有各的命名，但不便的都是日期訂在每年十二月二十六日，耶誕節的次日或是耶誕節後的第一個星期日。是有二種說法是普遍廣為接受，一是雇員在耶誕節後的第一個工作日，會收到雇主的耶誕禮物，這些禮物通常被稱為「耶誕節盒子」（Christmas Boxes)，所以英文的「節禮日」才譯為"Boxing Day"。另外一種說法是︰牧師將在這天打開功德箱，將裡面的捐款分發給窮人。不管歷史真相為何，現今的Boxing Day都已經演變成購物日，因為在耶誕節過後的第一天，商家都會推出減價活動來吸引消費者上門購物。所以，使得原本是一般人家為了接濟那些無家可歸的人們，而把自己耶誕節所剩下的事物和用品等等放在盒子裡後，擺在自己家門口讓有需要的人們自行取用的真正含義，早已消失無蹤影了。

原本以為boxing day這天會有大打折，中午到Queens st逛街時，大部分的商店都沒有特別的促銷活動

只有All Black(黑衫軍－紐西蘭橄欖球國家隊)專賣店有商品低價出清，那些商品是前些日子來紐西蘭比賽的英國國家隊Lion的相關產品

也因為比賽結束，Lion隊的產品已沒有宣傳效果才會打折
